These days, you need a Web site. But you don’t need a bad one.
So when you’re building it, make it the best it can be by focusing on the five most important elements of Web site design.
1.Navigation
Making your site easy to navigate is the top priority. The average web user only stays at a page for about three seconds, so if you want to keep them on it, you better make sure it’s clear and clean. You can organize your menus by using a drop down menu and a clearly marked site map will help as well.
2.Copywriting
So you’ve finally collected or written all the Web site content, but is it appropriate? Does it make sense? We all have strengths, but if you’re not a strong writer, seek a professional copywriter to look through your text. Their talents will make your site look and read professionally.
3.Fix The Size
Don’t you hate when the size of the Web site changes in your browser? Personally, I like how my setting is and it is not a good idea to have a Web site that resizes your current browser. Trust me, it will throw people off and no matter how great your site is, people can find one doesn’t mess with their own setting.
4.Loading Time
How do you balance between Web site design and functionality? It is a never-ending battle. Ultimately, you have to see your site from the user’s eye -- especially your homepage, since this is the first thing the users see. If you do have a loading icon, you can make it fun or have some message across the screen to keep users interested.
5. The All-Important Browser
Not all browsers are alike so when you build your Web site make sure it is compatible with other browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox. Even if you have a stylish Website, if it doesn’t work on Firefox, it has failed its purpose. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice the look and feel in exchange for a most user-friendly Web site.
