“Please do not touch, lean on, or lick the glass,” reads the sign on a glass case of pastries at Elizabethan Desserts. They aren’t kidding! One look at their elaborately decorated cupcakes and you will be saying sayonara to your dietary scruples.
This quaint and charismatic bakery creates the crème de la crème of baked goods. Betty Crocker, who? She has nothing on this place! The problem, at this establishment, won’t be finding something you like, it will be choosing from the plethora of mouth watering and equally adorable options.
Located in the Sunshine Nursery off of Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas, Elizabethan Desserts has been baking up bliss since 2006. All of their pastries are made from scratch, right down to the peanut butter and marshmallows used for their Peanut Butter Caramel S’mores.
This place is a sweet tooth’s dream, where spoonfuls of buttercream and creamcheese frosting are ample, and nothing escapes being dipped in chocolate ganache, drizzled in caramel, or topped with darling details (their Mustachio Cupcake is decorated with a miniature chocolate mustache—enough said).
Pies, cookies, bars, scones, muffins, and cupcakes whisper “come hither” from behind glass pastry cases. It’s a siren’s call that will require a will of steel to resist. If you do manage the miracle of walking away without one of their pastries, then we don’t know whether to applaud your immense self-control or feel bad that you’re missing out. Probably the latter.
Whether you are craving Peach Lattice Pie, Mexican Chocolate Brownies, or a taste of Sunshine (a cupcake made of white cake and passionfruit frosting), Elizabethan Desserts will deliver you to pastry paradise (or purgatory, depending on how you view it). You may want to consider bringing a friend. Moral support may be needed to prevent your falling over the baked goods ledge!
