Why Go Through With a Grocery Strike in This Economy?
Union workers of San Diego spent nearly two hours assembling 5,000 signs Saturday in case a local strike is initiated. Workers of Albertsons, Vons, and Ralphs are threatening to go on strike anytime after 7p.m. on Sunday if there is a failure to reach agreement on health benefits.
It looks like some of our favorite grocery stores may be shut down if this strike takes place, so stock up on the goods before its too late (don't pass up on those Albertson's blueberry muffins, or Ralph's loaded baked potato soup...mmm)!

'Modern Family' Leads ABC to 5 Emmys, End 8-Year HBO Streak
Yesterday was The Emmy Awards, and the results are in! 'Modern Family' won for best comedy series for the second year in a row, and 'Mad Men' took first place for best dramatic series for the fourth year in a row. Miniseries 'Downtown Abbey' beat out HBO's 'Mildred Pierce', ending the station's eight year winning streak.
What do we really think of the Emmy's? We think Sophie Vergara looked hot in the red dress. Screw the awards, we want the fashion. Stay tuned to The Flipside for more on the lovely ladies of this year's Emmy's.

A Mother's Way on Germs at Fast Food Playlands
Arizona resident, mother of four, and PhD. professor has taken up a new hobby: inspecting fast food playhouses for harmful bacteria. After slithering her way through the play areas of 11 states' fast food restaurants, Erin M. Carr-Jordan has received documentation from a lab analysis that fast food playhouses are nowhere near clean, and show the presence of potentially harmful bacterias. Dr. Carr-Jordan is now calling for legislation mandating stricter standards in playhouses.
Has she taken this too far? Fast food chains should absolutely implement strict standards when it comes to keeping their facilities clean, but it's also up to parents to promote hand washing and the importance of hygiene. From one germ vigilante to the next, we could see a push for legislation. Until then, we'll fondly remember our days playing in the dirt (and would you believe, we're still alive to tell about it).

11 Dead in India, Nepal After Magnitude 6.9 Quake
On Sunday, September 18, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Indian state of Sikkim, near the border between India and Nepal. Eleven people were found dead, and many sustained injuries. Power outages, downed phone lines, landslides and roadblocks were all reported within Sikkim. There is currently no tsunami warning issued. According to the geological survey, “the quake's epicenter was about 42 miles from the city of Gangtok and 169 miles east of Kathmandu.”
Thoughts and prayers go out to all of those injured and killed in this horrific incident. Why does it seem like there are more and more natural disasters hitting the world? This is just another reminder of two things (1) always be prepared for anything, and know all emergency procedures, and (2) maybe 2012 is really true!
